35 : 1 Contend, OLord, with those whocontend with me;fight against those who fight against me!
35 : 2 Take hold ofshield and bucklerand rise for my help!
35 : 3 Draw the spear and javelinagainst my pursuers!Say to my soul,I am your salvation!
35 : 4 Let them beput to shame and dishonorwho seek after my life!Let them beturned back and disappointedwho devise evil against me!
35 : 5 Let them be likechaff before the wind,with the angel of theLorddriving them away!
35 : 6 Let their way be dark andslippery,with the angel of theLordpursuing them!
35 : 7 Forwithout causethey hid their net for me;without cause they duga pit for my life.
35 : 8 Letdestruction come upon himwhen he does not know it!And let the net that he hid ensnare him;let him fall into it&emdash;to his destruction!
35 : 9 Then my soul will rejoice in theLord,exulting in his salvation.
35 : 10 All mybones shall say,OLord,who is like you,delivering the poorfrom him who is too strong for him,the poor and needy from him who robs him?
35 : 11 Maliciouswitnesses rise up;they ask me of things that I do not know.
35 : 12 They repay me evil for good;my soul is bereft.
35 : 13 But I,when they were sick&emdash;Iwore sackcloth;Iafflicted myself with fasting;I prayedwith head bowedon my chest.
35 : 14 I went about as though I grieved for my friend or my brother;as one who laments his mother,Ibowed down in mourning.
35 : 15 But at my stumbling they rejoiced and gathered;they gathered together against me;wretches whom I did not knowtore at me without ceasing;
35 : 16 like profane mockers at a feast,theygnash at me with their teeth.
35 : 17 How long, O Lord, will youlook on?Rescue me from their destruction,my precious life from the lions!
35 : 18 I will thank you inthe great congregation;in the mighty throng I will praise you.
35 : 19 Let not those rejoice over mewho arewrongfully my foes,and let not thosewink the eyewhohate mewithout cause.
35 : 20 For they do not speak peace,but against those who are quiet in the landthey devise words of deceit.
35 : 21 Theyopen wide their mouths against me;they say,Aha, Aha!Our eyes have seen it!
35 : 22 You have seen, OLord;be not silent!O Lord,be not far from me!
35 : 23 Awake androuse yourself formy vindication,for my cause, my God and my Lord!
35 : 24 Vindicate me, OLord, my God,according to your righteousness,andlet them not rejoice over me!
35 : 25 Let them not say in their hearts,Aha, our heart's desire!Let them not say,We have swallowed him up.
35 : 26 Let them beput to shame and disappointed altogetherwho rejoice at my calamity!Let them beclothed with shame and dishonorwhomagnify themselves against me!
35 : 27 Let those who delight in my righteousnessshout for joy and be gladand say evermore,Great is theLord,whodelights in the welfare of his servant!
35 : 28 Then mytongue shall tell of your righteousnessand of your praise all the day long.
