44 : 1 O God, we have heard with our ears,our fathers have told us,what deeds you performed in their days,in the days of old:
44 : 2 you with your own handdrove out the nations,butthem you planted;you afflicted the peoples,butthem you set free;
44 : 3 for notby their own sword did they win the land,nor did their own arm save them,but your right hand and your arm,andthe light of your face,for you delighted in them.
44 : 4 You are my King, O God;ordain salvation for Jacob!
44 : 5 Through you wepush down our foes;through your name wetread down those who rise up against us.
44 : 6 For not inmy bow do I trust,nor can my sword save me.
44 : 7 But you have saved us from our foesand haveput to shame those who hate us.
44 : 8 In God we have boasted continually,and we will give thanks to your name forever.Selah
44 : 9 But you haverejected us and disgraced usandhave not gone out with our armies.
44 : 10 You have made usturn back from the foe,and those who hate us have gotten spoil.
44 : 11 You have made us likesheep for slaughterand havescattered us among the nations.
44 : 12 You have sold your people for a trifle,demanding no high price for them.
44 : 13 You have made usthe taunt of our neighbors,the derision andscorn of those around us.
44 : 14 You have made usa byword among the nations,a laughingstockamong the peoples.
44 : 15 All day long my disgrace is before me,andshame has covered my face
44 : 16 at the sound of the taunter and reviler,at the sight ofthe enemy and the avenger.
44 : 17 All this has come upon us,though we have not forgotten you,and we have not been false to your covenant.
44 : 18 Our heart has not turned back,nor have ourstepsdeparted from your way;
44 : 19 yet you havebroken us in the place ofjackalsand covered us withthe shadow of death.
44 : 20 If we had forgotten the name of our Godorspread out our hands toa foreign god,
44 : 21 would not God discover this?For he knows the secrets of the heart.
44 : 22 Yetfor your sake we are killed all the day long;we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.
44 : 23 Awake! Why are you sleeping, O Lord?Rouse yourself!Do not reject us forever!
44 : 24 Whydo you hide your face?Why do you forget our affliction and oppression?
44 : 25 For oursoul is bowed down to the dust;our belly clings to the ground.
44 : 26 Rise up;come to our help!Redeem us for the sake of your steadfast love!
