49 : 1 Hear this, all peoples!Give ear, all inhabitants of the world,
49 : 2 both low and high,rich and poor together!
49 : 3 My mouth shall speakwisdom;the meditation of my heart shall be understanding.
49 : 4 I will incline my ear toa proverb;I will solve myriddle to the music of the lyre.
49 : 5 Why should I fear intimes of trouble,when the iniquity of those who cheat me surrounds me,
49 : 6 those whotrust in their wealthand boast of the abundance of their riches?
49 : 7 Truly no mancan ransom another,orgive to Godthe price of his life,
49 : 8 forthe ransom of their life is costlyand can never suffice,
49 : 9 that he should live on foreverandnever see the pit.
49 : 10 For he seesthat even the wise die;the fool and the stupid alike must perishandleave their wealth to others.
49 : 11 Theirgraves are their homes forever,their dwelling placesto all generations,though theycalled lands by their own names.
49 : 12 Man in his pompwill not remain;he is like the beasts that perish.
49 : 13 This is the path of those who havefoolish confidence;yet after them people approve of their boasts.Selah
49 : 14 Like sheep they are appointed for Sheol;death shall be their shepherd,and the uprightshall rule over them in the morning.Their form shall be consumedin Sheol, with no place to dwell.
49 : 15 But God willransom my soul from the power of Sheol,for he willreceive me.Selah
49 : 16 Be not afraid when a man becomes rich,when the glory of his house increases.
49 : 17 For when he dies he willcarry nothing away;his glory will not go down after him.
49 : 18 For though, while he lives, he counts himselfblessed&emdash;and though you get praise when you do well for yourself&emdash;
49 : 19 his soul willgo to the generation of his fathers,who will never againsee light.
49 : 20 Man in his pomp yet without understanding is like the beasts that perish.
